For the first time at the Freudian Bites table, two artists came into dialogue alongside a chef. This January edition brought together artists Radhika Khimji and Paul Hodgson with chef Camila Marcías for an intimate evening shaped by artistic process, material experimentation, and the rituals of making and sharing food.
The living room was activated as a site of live practice. Khimji introduced a cut-out sculptural work that entered the table as a physical presence, interrupting the logic of place-setting and inviting the body, line, and negative space into close proximity. Hodgson re-scripted the surface of the table itself through a bespoke screen-printed tablecloth, transforming it into an artwork in motion and foregrounding the often-invisible gestures, residues, and decisions that underpin artistic production.

Responding directly to both practices, Marcías developed a process-led menu that unfolded conceptually and sensorially across the evening. Each course mirrored acts of constructing, deconstructing, and reconstructing, translating artistic methodologies into texture, flavour, and form. The result was a menu that was deeply engaging while remaining generous, grounded, and unmistakably delicious.
Guests were also invited to take part beyond the meal. Bespoke painted tote bags, created for the occasion, extended the artists’ practices into a functional, portable object, while a collective action at the table gently activated participation, exchange, and shared attention. The evening moved fluidly between installation, conversation, and conviviality, holding the table as both artwork and gathering.
